Earnest Collins Jr. remains at one career win with the Northern Colorado Bears following Saturday's 41-16 loss to the No. 2 Montana St. Bobcats. The team is 1-3 and 0-1 in Big Sky play, which began today.
The Bobcats opened up with 21 straight points in the first quarter on a Denarius McGhee nine-yard touchdown pass and two Cody Kirk rushing touchdowns. That first quarter alone was enough to win the game.
However, the Bears did battle back a bit. They scored the first 10 points of the second quarter on a Dave Eden 40-yard field goal and a 10-yard Seth Lobato touchdown pass to Dimitri Stimphil. Still, McGhee ran for a seven-yard touchdown with 2:33 left in the half while Rory Perez added a 45-yard field goal for a 31-10 lead.
Eden put a 42-yard field goal attempt through the uprights before halftime and added a 38-yarder later in the third quarter, but that was it for the Bears' scoring. Montana State, however, still had a McGhee 49-yard touchdown pass and a Perez 22-yard field goal to add.
McGhee finished 34 of 44 for 387 yards and two touchdown passes. Lobato, his Bears counterpart, was just 13-of-31 for 214 yards.
Northern Colorado hosts the Montana Grizzlies in two weeks. Montana State visits Southern Utah next weekend.
