The Rio Grande Rivalry between the New Mexico Lobos and New Mexico St. Aggies actually outdates the state of New Mexico itself, beginning 18 years before New Mexico achieved statehood.
In game No. 106 of the in-state rivalry, the Aggies enter as favorites to win their fourth straight game against the Lobos. While the Lobos dominate the all-time series, the Aggies have been the winners in three straight, including a 42-28 win in Albuquerque in 2011.
After winning their opener against Southern, the Lobos were trounced by each Texas and Texas Tech, losing both by a combined 80 points. The Aggies have followed a similar path, winning their opener against Sacramento State before losing to both UTEP and Ohio by a combined 40 points.
