The Northern Colorado Bears (1-1) travel to California to take on the Sacramento State Hornets (1-1) on Saturday afternoon. The Bears picked up their first win last week when they defeated the Div. II Colorado Mesa Mavericks, 40-3. That snapped a 12-game losing streak that extended through the entire 0-11 2011 campaign.
This game against the Hornets will be the Bears' first FCS opponent of the season, as Northern Colorado's other game was 41-0 loss to the Utah Utes. The Hornets enter this game with a last-second victory over the FBS Colorado Buffaloes. Kicker Edgar Castaneda kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired for the 30-28 victory.
This will be a non-conference game between the two teams even though Sacramento State is now also a member of the Big Sky. The conference expanded to 13 teams on July 1, which allowed this to happen.
Game time/date: 3:05 p.m. MT, Saturday, Sept. 15
Location: Hornet Stadium, Sacramento, Calif.
Radio: KFKA 1310 (Greeley)
