Team Russia defeated Team Lithuania in the first game of medal play in men's basketball at the 2012 Olympics on Wednesday, 83-74. The Russians were led by Andrei Kirilenko— newest member of the Minnesota Timberwolves— who scored 19 points, and added 13 rebounds, two assists, three blocks and three steals. Russia also received a huge game from Denver Nuggets center Timofey Mozgov, who scored 17 points on 6-10 shooting from the field. He also added four rebounds, an assist and a steal.
The Lithuanians had a good run in the Olympics, most notably giving the U.S. a strong challenge in group play. But they were undone on Wednesday by poor shooting, going only 37% from the field. Ex-Nugget Linas Kleiza shot only 1-7 from the field, scoring four points.
