Missy Franklin Wins 4th Gold As Part Of Women's 4x100m Medley Relay Victory For Team USA

Missy Franklin finished her 2012 London Summer Olympics events on Saturday by capturing her fourth gold medal and fifth total. Taking part in the 4x100m medley relay, Franklin led off and helped the team to set a world record finish of 3:52:05. That was 1.97 seconds better than silver medal winner Australia. Japan was 3.68 seconds behind for the bronze medal.

Franklin did the first 100 meters in 58.50 seconds using the backstroke. Rebecca Soni followed with the breaststroke and Dana Vollmer followed. Allison Schmitt was off the world record for a little bit, but during the final 50 meters she regained the lead on the world record.

Franklin won individual gold medals in the 100m and 200m backstroke events and a team gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay. Team USA won bronze in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Missy Franklin will look for more gold in Rio de Janeiro during the 2016 Olympics.
