After defeating Brazil on Thursday, Russia came back on Saturday to face Spain in its penultimate game in group play. Improving to 4-0, Russia defeated Spain, 77-74. Denver Nuggets center Timofey had a solid performance for Russia, scoring 12 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
Vitaliy Fridzon, the hero in the victory over Brazil, led the team with 24 points. Anton Ponkrashov scored 14 points and dished out the ball for 11 assists.
Former Nuggets swingman Rudy Fernandez of Spain was tied for second in scoring on his team, putting in 10 points. In addition to that, he also grabbed six rebounds and stole the ball twice. Pau Gasol led the team with 20 points. Spain is now 3-1 in group play.
Russia has one game left to play, a contest on Monday against Australia.
