The Utah State Aggies begin their swan song as a member of the Western Athletic Conference with an in-state contest against the Football Championship Subdivision Southern Utah Thunderbirds. The Aggies accepted an invitation to join the Mountain West Conference in 2013 and will look to go out on top in WAC in 2012. But they'll need to wait until November to face their main challenge, the La. Tech Bulldogs.

Utah State went 7-6 in 2011, ultimately losing to the Ohio Bobcats in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The Bobcats pulled out a 24-23 victory with a 61-yard scoring drive in the last two minutes of the game. The offense lost running back Robert Turbin to the NFL, but Kerwynn Williams will look to replace the 1,517 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns his predecessor put up. Chuckie Keeton and Adam Kennedy both return as part of a two-quarterback system.

Southern Utah moved to the Big Sky Conference over the summer and is looking to improve on its back-to-back 6-5 records while in the Great West. Keep an eye out on senior quarterback Brad Sorensen. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound signal caller transferred from BYU in 2009 and has been the starter at Southern Utah for the last two seasons. In 2011, he for 3,143 yards with a 67.8 completion percentage and 17 touchdown passes.

Game time/date: 6:00 p.m. MT, Thursday, Aug. 30
