Missy Franklin Captures Gold Medal In 200m Backstroke

Missy Franklin has added her third gold medal at the 2012 London Summer Olympics after dominating the 200 meter backstroke final. She set a world record with a finish time of 2:04.06, besting Kirsty Coventry's 2:04.81 from 2009.

Russia's Anastasia Zueva of Russia came in second place, but +1.86 seconds behind Franklin. Franklin led at each turn of the race and built an insurmountable lead during the final 50 meters.

Fellow United States swimmer Elizabeth Beisel came in third place, taking the bronze medal at +2.49 seconds. Great Britain's Elizabeth Simmonds came in fourth at over three seconds behind.

Franklin won the gold medal in the 100 meter backstroke and also as part of the relay team in the 4x200 freestyle. She has a bronze medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay.
