2012 Barclays: Padraig Harrington Leads at 7-Under, CSU's Martin Laird at 1-Under

Ireland's Padraig Harrington shot a 7-under 64 to take the lead through the first round of The Barclays at Bethpage in Farmingdale, N.Y. Thursday. He has a one-stroke advantage over Nick Watney and Brian Harman after the first 18 holes.

Harrington made six birdies on the back nine, including the first four holes, on an increasingly warm day with soft greens. Harrington is looking to make a run at the Ryder Cup team, and with his only chance resting with European Captain Jose Maria Olazabal's pick, Harrington is responding early.

Pat Perez, Sergio Garcia, Gary Christian and Jimmy Walker finished 5-under for the day, tied for fourth place.

Tiger Woods shot a 3-under 68 and is tied for 14th place.

Colorado State product Martin Laird shot a 1-under 70 to finish the first round in 35th place. Laird was 4-over at the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island Resort.

Boise State product Graham DeLaet got off to a rough start, and was 3-over through 16 holes. This comes a week after finishing 22nd at the Wyndham Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

George McNeil, K.J. Choi, Dustin Johnson, Jonas Blixt, Ricky Fowler and Justin Rose all shot a 4-under 67, tying for 8th place after the first round.
