2012 U.S. Amateur Championship Update: Top Seed Wyatt Ousted As Quarterfinal Field Set

Eight amateur golfers advanced to the quarterfinals in match play at the U.S. Amateur Championshp at Cherry Hills (Colo.) Country Club on Thursday.

A pair of college teammates from Alabama faced off in the Round of 16th with Justin Thomas from Goshen, KY completing an upset by beating Bobby Wyatt 1 up to advance. Wyatt, from Mobile, AL, was the top seed among the initial match play field of 64 after winning the stroke-play qualifying portion of the tournament with a record 9-under par. Thomas will face Australia's Oliver Goss on Friday.

Another pair of college teammates, Chris Williams and Cheng-Tsuan Pan from the University of Washington, both advanced to Friday's action. Williams, from Moscow, ID won his match against Edouardo Espana of France, while Pan of Chinese Taipei held on for a 2 up win over Texan Andrew Presley.

Williams will play Steven Fox from Hendersonville, TN in the quarterfinal round while Pan will take on Brandon Hagy of Westlake Village, CA. The other quarterfinal matchup on Friday will pit Ricardo Gouveia of Portugal against Michael Weaver from Fresno, CA.
