2012 U.S. Amateur Championship Update: Idaho's Chris Williams Moves To Round Of 16

Number one amateur Chris Williams, of Moscow, Idaho, moved on to the Round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur Championship on Thursday. Williams, who competes in scholastic play for the University of Washington, defeated Adam Stephenson of Greenville, North Carolina 5 & 3 to advance at the Cherry Hills Country Club.

Devon Purser, a Clearfield, Utah product, is even through 20 holes with Adam Schenk (Vincennes, Ind.) at Cherry Hills Village, Colorado. Purser is a Brigham Young University golfer who made the USGA Junior Amateur Round of 16 in 2010.

Williams' teammate on the Huskies, Cheng-Tsuang Pan, is two-up over Gavin Green of Malaysia with three holes to play this afternoon. Doug Hanzel, who is a 55-year-old amateur from Savannah, Ga., is all square after 17 holes of play with Steven Fox, of Hendersonville, Tennessee.
