Colorado St. grad Martin Laird has fallen back to even after bogeying twice in the first nine. Laird entered the day with a 1-under score, and had he not birdied on Hole No. 2, he would have likely dropped further than No. 21 in the standings by now.
Meanwhile, Laird's groupmate -- Pat Perez -- started his day with a pair of birdies. The early success has helped buoy him into a tie for the No. 7 ranking with a 3-under total. Tiger Woods has jumped into the top spot with a 5-under score, but he still working through the front nine. Second place currently has a hotly contested five-way tie.
