Missy Franklin's busy Wednesday in London started off with an easy task: qualifying for the semifinals in the 100m freestyle. Franklin had no problem completing that one, finishing fourth in her qualifying heat and 10th overall, which got her into the semifinal field of 16 with ease. Franklin finished the heat in 54.26 seconds.
Franklin's semifinal heat will kick off at about 12:38 p.m. MT, and though she'll have a good shot at medaling, there is some stiff competition. Two main swimmers to watch hail from the Netherlands, which won silver in the women's 4x100m freestyle earlier in the Olympics. Those racers are Femke Heemskerk, who is the reigning world champion in the 100m freestyle and Ranomi Kromowidjojo, who won bronze at the world championships. There is also Jeanette Ottesen Gray, a Danish swimmer who won silver in the event at the world championships and Melanie Schlanger, who helped the Australians win gold in the 100m relay.
