2012 Tour de France: Garmin-Sharp CEO Says Team Is Out Of General Classification Competition

Team Garmin-Sharp's general classification chances took a huge hit on Friday when a crash knocked Ryder Hesjedal from ninth overall to No. 108. Three other Garmin riders were involved. In the aftermath of that disaster, team CEO Jonathan Vaughters said they're no longer thinking about winning the GC.

Vaughters, who hoped Hesjedal would contest Bradley Wiggins and defending-champion Cadel Evans for the overall title, said the team strategy has changed.

"We're not racing the GC whatsoever," Vaughters said. "We'll be hunting stage wins, Most Aggressive, King of the Mountain. But the GC is done."

Hesjedal, who is 13:38 behind leader Fabian Cancellara, may not be able to start Saturday's stage due to injuries suffered in the crash.
