Missy Franklin Update: Franklin Moves On To 200m Freestyle Semifinals

Missy Franklin's Tuesday started out early in the morning in London in what is undoubtedly her least important heat of the day. That race was the qualifying heat for the women's 200m Freestyle, and Franklin advanced easily, placing second in her group behind Italian Federica Pellegrini.

With that second place finish, Franklin advanced to the semifinals, which will take place on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately for Franklin, the semifinal kicks off just about 20 minutes before the 100m Backstroke final, where she's expected to compete with Australian Emily Seebohm for gold. Franklin will have to balance making sure she advances to the 200m Freestyle final while not exhausting herself prior to the 100m Backstroke final.

The 100m Backstroke is expected to begin at 12:51 p.m. MT, with the 200m Freestyle semi starting around 12:30 p.m. MT. Both heats will be streamed by NBC and will be shown on TV as part of NBC's primetime coverage starting at 5 p.m. MT.
