The Netherlands is celebrating a gold medal in the women's road race on Sunday with Marianne Vos' victory in London. With pouring rain for much of the race, Vos was in a breakaway group of three riders when at the mark for the final 200 meters she made her move and accelerated ahead of her two competitors. She finished with a time of 3:35:29.
Finishing in second place with the same time was Great Britain's Elizabeth Armitstead, winning the first medal for the host country. Olga Zabelinskaya took the bronze medal with a finishing time of 3:35:31. The complete results can be found here.
For the United States, Shelly Olds came in seventh place with a finish time of 3:35:56. Idaho's Kristin Armstrong finished in 35th place (3:36:16).
