Colorado State graduate Martin Laird is part of the 17-way tie for 37th place with par (70 total). Laird, a native of Scotland, won the Palmer Invitational in 2011, but he has a tough task in catching Adam Scott, who is off to a record-breaking start with a 6-under first round.
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods sits at 3-under, tied with eight other golfers for sixth place.
