2012 Tour de France Results: Thomas Voeckler Dominates Way To Stage 16 Victory

Thomas Voeckler has won his second stage in the 2012 Tour de France with a Wednesday victory on Stage 16 (he won Stage 10 on July 11). The last time a Tour stage ended in Bagnères-de-Luchon was in 2010, and Voeckler won that stage. Voeckler finished the stage in 5:35:02, +1:40 ahead of Chris Anker Sorensen. Voeckler pretty much sealed the race on the ascent up the Col de Peyresourde.

Bradley Wiggins, Christopher Froome and Vincenzo Nibali remain in the top three spots in the general classification, respectively, with Wiggins holding a +2:05 lead over Froome. All three of them finished +7:09 behind Voeckler on this stage.

Cadel Evans, the 2011 Tour winner, lost several minutes on this stage and is over eight minutes behind Wiggins. He is effectively out of the yellow jersey competition.
