2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament: Stony Brook Upsets LSU In Game 2, 3-1

The Stony Brook Seawolves upset the No. 7 national seed LSU Tigers on Saturday with a 3-1 victory in Game 2 of this Baton Rouge, La., Super Regional in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Seawolves lost the completion of Game 1, 5-4, in 12 innings on Saturday morning, but bounced back with a complete game by starter Tyler Johnson in the afternoon..

Both teams battled the rain during the early innings of the game, but Johnson, a senior, wasn't bothered by it at all. He allowed one run on three hits while walking four batters. LSU's Kevin Gausman threw 12 pitches for the victory in Game 1, but he took the loss as the starter in Game 2. He gave up three runs on six hits in seven innings.

Stony Brook scored those runs on Kevin Gausman with a couple of singles in the third inning and a Kevin Courtney home run in the fifth inning. Raph Rhymes drove in LSU's run during the top of the sixth, but that was all the team could do.

The decisive Game 3 for a spot in the College World Series in Omaha will take place on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT. LSU will start former Rockies draft pick Ryan Eades.
