The No. 2 Vanderbilt Commodores were just three outs away from winning the Raleigh regional over the host No. 1 N.C. State Wolfpack; however, when all was said and done the 'Dores found themselves out of the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament with a 9-7 loss and the 'Pack secured a spot in the Super Regionals
Vanderbilt held a 7-6 lead in the top of the ninth, but a single, a throwing error, a ground out and an intentional walk load the bases with Will Clinard on the mound. Tarran Senay then knocked in two runs on a single. A single by Trea Turner cushioned the lead by another run.
N.C. State starter Logan Jernigan allowed all seven runs over four innings, but Ryan Wilkins and D.J. Thomas did a shutdown job for the remainder of the game. Vanderbilt's Tyler Beede threw 5.1 innings of four-run ball while walking three and striking out eight.
The Wolfpack will go on to play the No. 1 national seed Florida Gators in the Super Regionals this weekend.
