Missy Franklin has advanced to the semifinals of the 200 meter freestyle at the 2012 U.S. Swimming Team Trials in Omaha, Neb. She finished in third place with a result of 1:58.62. Allison Schmitt had the fastest time at 1:58.02. Dana Vollmer came in second place at 1:58.34.
Sixteen of the 99 swimmers qualified for the semifinals, which take place on Wednesday night. This will be a busy night for Franklin, as she will also compete in the finals of the 100 meter backstroke on Wednesday. She swam the 100 meter backstroke in 59.06 seconds on Tuesday to win the semis.
Should Franklin advance to the finals for the 200m -- which is very likely -- she will compete in the finals on Thursday. She will also have three other events to take part in over the remainder of the trials. Preliminaries for the 100m freestyle, the 200m backstroke and the 50 freestyle come on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
