2012 College World Series Scores: Arizona Leads South Carolina, 4-0, After 5 Innings

Arizona Wildcats sophomore right-hander Konner Wade has continued to dominate opposing batters in the 2012 College World Series, now throwing 14 shutout innings so far. He has thrown five shutout innings against the South Carolina Gamecocks in Game 1 of the CWS title series, which Arizona currently leads, 4-0. Wade threw a complete-game shutout against UCLA in his first CWS start.

Arizona struck for two runs against South Carolina starter Forrest Koumas in the first inning. Robert Refsnyder picked up the two RBI on a two-run home run. Alex Mejia singled to left center field in the bottom of the third inning to drive in the third run.

Evan Beal relieved Koumas that inning after the bases were loaded. He got Seth Mejias-Brean to hit into a double play to end the inning. However, Beal got in trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning when Johnny walked and then advanced to second and third on the same play through a wild pitch and a throwing error. Mejias-Brean delivered a single to center field to plate the fourth run of the game.

South Carolina is the two-time defending College World Series champion.
