2012 College World Series Scores: Florida St. Eliminates Stony Brook With 12-2 Victory

The feel-good story of the Stony Brook Seawolves has come to an end in Omaha after losing its second game in the College World Series. The Florida St. Seminoles won Sunday afternoon's game, 12-2, to advance to another elimination game on Tuesday.

The Seminoles broke open the game with a six-run third inning, with the big damage done on a two-run error and a three-run home run by Justin Gonzalez. Devon Travis added a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning and an RBI double in the sixth inning. In the latter inning, Sherman Johnson hit a two-run double to right center field immediately preceding Travis' double.

Florida St. starter Mike Compton threw six innings of two-run ball and then saw three relievers close the deal out. Stony Brook starter Brandon McNitt allowed nine of the 12 runs, but just four of them were earned due to a variety of errors.

With this ending, Stony Brook will not join the 2008 Fresno St. Bulldogs as the only No. 4 regional seed to win the College World Series. For Florida St., the loser of Arizona-UCLA on Sunday night awaits in an elimination game on Tuesday.
