U.S. Open 2012 Leaderboard: Tiger Woods Turns In Strong Performance

The first round of play at the 2012 U.S. Open on Thursday featured some interesting action, but nothing turned heads more than Tiger Woods coming in 1-under after 18 holes. Woods ripped off two quick birdies on holes No. 4 and No. 5 and then coasted to a 69, the second-best score of any golfer through the full 18 holes. Michael Thompson is the only golfer to out-hit Tiger so far, as he pulled off a 4-under by notching birdies on seven different holes.

Parker, Co., resident Shane Bertsch finished at 8-over, while 14-year-old amateur Andy Zhang turned in a disappointing 9-over mark after play on Thursday. Phil Mickelson also struggled on the first day, bogeying on seven different holes and only recording one birdie.
