The 2012 Giro d'Italia began its Italian portion of the race on Wednesday with a team time trial through Verona for 33.2 km, which Team Garmin-Barracuda won by five seconds. The team's final time was 37:04. Katusha Team finished in second finished second while third-place Astana Pro Team was 22 seconds behind.
This was the only team time trial of the race, but there is still one more individual time trial to go. The final day of the race in Milan will host that event. Thursday's stage is a flat 199 km/124 mi from Modena to Fano.
Garmin-Barracuda is still the fastest team overall (28:51:40) with a 34-second lead over BMC Racing.
