Stage 2 of the 2012 Giro d'Italia is in the books with Mark Cavendish winning the looping course through Herning, Denmark. Garmin-Barracuda's Tyler Farrar came in fourth for the day, the only member of the team to finish inside the top 10 for the stage.
Cavendish completed the course in 4:53:12, but that was not enough to overcome Taylor Phinney, who still wears the Maglia Rosa (pink jersey) after the first two stages of the day. Cavendish took the final sprint to the finish line, as expected since sprinting is his strong suit.
The Giro completes its run through Denmark with Stage 3 on Monday before a rest day on Tuesday and a trip to Italy for the remainder of the race.
