Garmin-Barracuda got off to an excellent start in the 2012 Giro d'Italia by placing four riders inside the top 15 (complete standings) at the conclusion of Stage 1's individual time trial through Herning, Denmark. Alex Rasmussen led the team with a third-place finish at 10:39, 13 seconds behind Taylor Phinney. Rasmunas Navardauskas is tied for fifth overall with Gustav Erik Larsson at 22 seconds behind.

Robert Hunter and Jack Bauer are tied with Stef Clement for 12th place, just 28 seconds behind Phinney. Ryder Hesjedal is 29 seconds behind Phinney, which puts him in a tie for 15th place with three others, but he is not counted as a top 15 rider as of now.

Among the rest of the team, Tyler Farrar is 36 seconds behind, Sebastien Rosseler 43 seconds, Christian Vande Velde 44 seconds and Peter Stetina 45 seconds. Stetina is in 52nd place and ninth out of nine for Garmin-Barracuda.
