Giro d'Italia 2012 Standings: Boulder's Taylor Phinney Leads After Stage 1; Garmin-Barracuda's Alex Rasmussen In 3rd

The first day of the 2012 Giro d'Italia is over with and Boulder native Taylor Phinney of BMC Racing Team wears the Maglia Rosa (pink jersey) after the individual time trial through Herning, Denmark. He finished with a time of 10:26, nine seconds better than Geraint Thomas and 13 seconds better than Garmin Barracuda's Alex Rasmussen, a native of Denmark.

Ramunas Navardauskas, also a member of Garmin-Barracuda, held the lead for most of the day with a 10:48 finish, but it wasn't until Manuele Boaro (No. 4) finished ahead of him at 10:41 that he was displaced from the top. Navardauskas is now tied for fifth with Erik Gustav Larsson.

The race has two more stages in Denmark before an off day on Tuesday. The race then shifts to Italy for the remainder of the event.
