Colorado Marathon 2012 Preview: Race Set For This Weekend In Fort Collins

The 2012 Colorado Marathon is coming up this weekend.

The Colorado Marathon, which is run annually in Fort Collins, CO, was established since 2002. The 2012 marathon will take place this weekend, with runners competing in a range of difference distance races ranging from 5k (3.1 miles) to the full 26.2 miles.

The Colorado Marathon, a Boston qualifier, is the fastest and most scenic marathon in Colorado.

Those who run the full marathon will end up descending over 1,100 feet -- the course begins at an elevation of 6,108 feet and ends at an elevation of 4,981 feet.

In 2011, a total of 986 people finished the marathon, with male winner Steve Folkerts completing the course in 2:29:30. The fastest female finished the course in 3:03:20 and the average finisher needed 4:20:03 to complete the race.
