Venus Williams has moved on to round two of the women's bracket in the 2012 French Open, but not without some difficulty. Williams dropped her first set to Paula Ormaechea, 4-6, before rebounding to take the following to sets (6-1, 6-3).

Williams was complimentary of her opponent afterward:
"She played beautifully. I think the thing I was most impressed with was her fight, determination. You can see that she has a plan for this game," Williams said. "I had a chance to talk with her a little bit after the match, so it was very good to see the young person doing so well. It was great."
Elsewhere on the women's side, No. 6 seed Samantha Stosur advanced, as did No. 10 Angelique Kerber and No. 13 Ana Ivanovic. View the full scoreboard here.
