Giro d'Italia 2012 Results: Francisco Ventoso Alberdi Captures Stage 9 Victory, But Ryder Hesjedal Still GC Leader

Stage 9 of the 2012 Giro d'Italia is over with, but not without some action at the end that disrupted several riders. In the end, Francisco Ventoso Alberdi led the pack with a 3:39:15 finish, ahead of Fabio Felline, Giacomo Nizzolo and a whole host of others riders with that time. Ryder Hesjedal came in seventh and retained the maglia rosa (pink jersey).

During the final curve of the stage, Matthew Harley Goss and Filippo Pozzato crashed, sending Mark Cavendish into breaking mode during the final spring to the finish line.

Hesjedal still maintains a nine-second lead over Joaquim Rodriguez for the general classification lead after the mass finish time on this stage.
