Conference Realignment: WAC Football Meeting Its Death Knell, According To Report

WAC football may only have 13 months left. What was once a powerful 20-team conference has seen plenty of deflections over recent years, and it appears as if WAC football is now all but finished.

A report by Brett McMurphy of CBS Sports essentially seals it: with only Idaho and New Mexico still tied to the league after next season, WAC football will soon be no more. Last season, the Fresno State Bulldogs, Hawaii Warriors and Nevada Wolfpack each left the WAC in football to join the Mountain West. Boise State bolted the year before.

There are seven teams currently slated in the WAC this fall in football: Idaho, New Mexico State, Louisiana Tech, Utah State, San Jose State, Texas San Antonio and Texas State. Louisana Tech and UTSA are headed to Conference USA after this season, Utah State and San Jose State will move to the Mountain West and Texas State will go to the Sun Belt.
