NASCAR At Phoenix 2012 Update: Smith Finishes 20th

After nearly capturing his first pole, Regan Smith entered the Subway Fresh Fit 500 with the belief that he could win the race. Following a 24th place finish at the Daytona 500, Smith started third in Phoenix and put together an excellent race until gas troubles derailed him at the end, resulting in a 20th place finish.

Smith voiced his pride in the performance by him and his team on Twitter following the race:

@Regan_Smith_: Well we were in good position at the end, just a lil short on fuel. Proud of my guys worked hard all weekend at a track we struggled last yr

Despite starting in 13th, Denny Hamlin rallied to earn his first victory of the season. Kevin Harvick pushed Hamlin down the stretch, but ended up finishing in second, while Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson and Brad Keselowski rounded out the top five.
