March Madness is alive and well in Colorado even with the Colorado Buffaloes and the Colorado St. Rams out of the Division I tournament. The Metro State Roadrunners play on Wednesday night against the Montevallo Falcons in the Elite Eight of the 2012 NCAA Division II Tournament.
The Roadrunners were the No. 2 seed in the Central Region that the No. 1 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers hosted. Metro State opened the tournament with a victory over Adams State and then defeated St. Cloud State in the second round. This set up a showdown with No. 1 Mines, which the Roadrunners won, 73-64. Reggie Evans scored 22 points in the victory and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the way to victory.
Evans was recently named to the Daktronics Third Team All-America for the 2011-12 season (PDF). Evans averages 18.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game this season.
Also joining Evans on the third team is Montevallo guard D.J. Rivera, who leads the Falcons with 21.8 points per game. Montevallo was the No. 1 team in the Southeast Region, beating Barton, Lincoln Memorial and Anderson (S.C.) to reach the Elite Eight.
