The 2012 NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament got underway on Friday with a few games on the schedule, but the bulk of the games are taking place on Saturday afternoon and evening. The Metro State Roadrunners are the No. 2 seed in the Central Regional that is hosted by the No. 1 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers. The Roadrunners take on the No. 7 Adams State Grizzlies at 2:30 p.m. MT
Metro State is ranked No. 13 in the nation heading into this contest, but they lost to Colorado Mesa in the RMAC shootout. Still, their 22-6 record has them as the No. 2 team at the Golden, CO, regional and potential favorites to match up with the Orediggers to win this subsection of the bracket and advance to the Elite Eight.
The Roadrunners are led by senior guard Reggie Evans' 18.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while junior forward Jonathan Morse is not too far behind with 13.6 points and 9.4 rebounds. Brandon Jefferson (12.8 points), Demetrius Miller (11 points) and Nicholas Kay (7 points) fill out the remainder of the expected starting lineup.
Adams State finished third in the RMAC with a 19-8 record, behind only Colorado School of Mines and Metro State. Marqus Richards (14.2 points) and Jack Osborn (12.6) lead the Grizzlies offense that averages 80.8 points per game. The Roadrunners will need to watch out for Jamiko Verner and his 99 steals on the season.
