For anyone who is baseball deprived right about now, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) began its season on Friday with a contest between Colorado Mesa Mavericks and the Grand Canyon University Antelopes. The Mavs defeated the Lopes, 3-2.
Senior outfielder Jeff Popick went 3-for-4 with one run scored. Colton Schoelkopf and Nate Robertson each drove in a run. Nolan Snell allowed one run on four hits and six walks in five innings pitched, picking up the win. He struck out seven. Grand Canyon's starter, Brady Wager, was tagged for the loss after allowing three run in six innings. He struck out seven and walked only one.
The teams will play a double-header on Saturday and finish things on Sunday with a fourth game.
