No. 3 ranked Montan State is on upset alert as they trail Sam Houston 20-3 at the half of the quarterfinal round of the FCS playoffs. The first quarter was evenly matched as each team managed just a field goal, but the second quarter is when Sam Houston State started to pull away.
Sam Houston starting quarterback Brian Bell has been the key to this game as he has been able to beat the Montana secondary with the deep passing game. Bell has completed 7 of 15 passes for 176 yards and one touchdown. That one passing touchdown was a 56-yard completion to Trey Diller. Diller has been Bell's favorite target Friday night as he has just three receptions, but 104 yards.
The Montana State offense in the second quarter was completely held in check as all three of their possessions were three-and-outs, and they only managed 13 total yards in the second quarter.
Montana State quarterback DeNarius McGhee has had a rough night throwing the ball as he is 6 of 13 for just 61 yards and an interception, but he has been able to run the ball reasonably well with 48 yards on the ground. That pick led to a Sam Houston State touchdown.
