Air Force vs. UC Riverside final score: Michael Lyons scores 22 as Falcons defeat Highlanders, 61-53

The Falcons' senior guard dominated in a final tune-up before the team faces No. 8 Florida.

Air Force guard Michael Lyons scored 22 points, leading the Falcons to a 61-53 win over the UC Riverside Highlanders Saturday afternoon. The Falcons jumped out to an early 19-6 lead, only to have UC Riverside storm back. The Highlanders briefly held a lead at 26-23, before a 7-0 Air Force run gave the Falcons the halftime lead. Air Force methodically pulled away from the hosts through the second half.

Lyons, who is now 12th nationally in scoring at 20.5 points per game, shot 8-16 from the field and 5-7 from the free throw line. The senior guard also led the Falcons in rebounds and assists in the eight-point win. Kyle Green came off the bench to throw in 11 points for the Falcons, and center Taylor Broekhuis had 10 points and four rebounds.

UC Riverside was led by forward Chris Patton, who scored 14 points and hauled in seven rebounds off the bench for the Highlanders. Robert Smith had 11 points. UC Riverside shot just 36 percent from the field on the night.

Air Force, now 8-2 on the season, returns home to face No. 8 Florida next Saturday.
