Powered by a 9-0 start to the year, the Metropolitan State Roadrunners moved up to No. 2 overall in the most recent NABC/Division II Men's Basketball Poll.
After sitting in the No. 3 spot for four consecutive weeks to open the season, the Roadrunners used a pair of wins over both Black Hills State and Chadron State to achieve their highest ranking to-date during the 2012-13 campaign. Following a loss by Washburn, last week's No. 2 team, a number of programs including Metro State were able to climb the poll by default this week.
Claiming the top spot for the fifth straight week was West Liberty, a team that picked up 13 of the poll's 16 first-place votes in the midst of an 8-0 start to the season. While Metro State did manage to snag one first-place nod from a voter, No. 3 Alabama-Huntsville and No. 4 Bellarmine each picked up a first-place vote as well. Looking to further its quest for the No. 1 spot, Metro State will next hit the court for a pivotal home game on Jan. 4 against New Mexico Highlands.
