Brawl of the Wild, Montana State v. Montana: Bobcats looking to clinch share of Big Sky

The Montana Grizzlies and Montana State Bobcats face off in their annual rivalry game on Saturday

Nelson Chenault-US PRESSWIRE

The Montana Grizzlies and Montana State Bobcats face off this weekend in their annual rivalry game. Titled the "Brawl of the Wild," these two teams have been playing each other since 1897. The Grizzlies have dominated this rivalry recently, winning 22 of the last 26 games, and holding a 70-36-5 lead overall.

Montana State enters the game ranked No. 2 in the FCS Top 25. A victory on the road gives the Bobcats at least a share of their third straight Big Sky title, and should set them up with a playoff birth.

Montana is hoping to avoid their first losing season in 27 years. The Grizzlies are 5-5 heading into Senior night after going 11-3 and playing the FCS semifinals last year.

Controversy surrounded the Montana Grizzles this offseason that resulted in the firing of the team's head coach and athletic director. Victims of sexual assault accused campus officials and local law enforcement of doing too little in response to allegations of assault.
