United States Olympian Missy Franklin has committed via a tweet to swim at the University of California at Berkeley next year. Franklin, 17, won five medals for the USA in the 2012 London Olympics, four golds and one bronze, and is considered by many to be a huge piece of the future for USA Swimming. She attends high school in Aurora. Franklin has refused prize money from swimming events and has no endorsements, as to maintain her amateur eligibility for college.

Franklin holds the world record for the 200 meter backstroke, and was part of the world record 4x100 meter medley relay team. She also holds the American record for the 100 meter backstroke, 4x200 meter freestyle relay and 4x100 meter freestyle relay.

One of Franklin's Olympic teammates, Natalie Coughlin, also swam at Cal. Franklin has said before that Coughlin is her favorite athlete, so that may have played some role in her decision to go to Cal.
