The No. 13 ranked Air Force are on the road Thursday night as they play No. 11 UC San Diego in a key WWPA game. UC San Diego is currently 7-6 overall record and are 6-2 in the WWPA, and they are coming off an 11-8 home loss to No. 10 Long Beach State.
UCSD is led by Josh Stiling who has scored 49 goals on the year, while John Butler distributes the ball well with 27 assists. Air Force is led by goalie Mike Fish who has recorded 180 saves this year in just 14 games, and he will be focused on stopping Stiling.
This is the second game between these two schools, and lat time they played it was at the NorCal tournament where UCSD got the best of Air Force, winning 8-7 in double overtime. In that first game, Air Force fell behind early and had to rally to even force overtime against UCSD. This game could come down to what team finds the hot hand, because this game is likely to be a defensive battle.
This game is key for WWPA play as Air Force is in second place with a 7-2 record, and is a half-game ahead of UCSD who is 6-2. If Air Force can get the win they will have some breathing room for that second place spot, but a loss will put them in third place since UCSD will be 2-0 against Air Force.
The game begins at 7 p.m. MT and can be watched via UC San Diego's website, free of charge.
