Let's face it, tortilla chips are going to be at whatever 2012 Super Bowl event you attend. Salsa can be great, queso dip provides a decent alternative, but a great guacamole can become the star of the show. The Barefoot Contessa -- also known as Ina Garten -- of the Food Network has developed a terrific recipe for guacamole that is both simple and delicious.
If you want to bring something to the Super Bowl party but don't want to spend a lot of time or money, this homemade guacamole is a very reasonable option. The full list of ingredients and the instructions are both here, but if you'd like a quick look at the ingredients they are provided below:
- 4 ripe Hass avocados
- 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 lemon)
- 8 dashes hot sauce (recommended: Tabasco)
- 1/2 cup small-diced red onion (1 small onion)
- 1 large garlic clove, minced
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 medium tomato, seeded, and small-diced
