Winter X Games 2012: Shaun White Pulls Out Of Slopestyle Due To Ankle Injury

After Shaun White hurt his ankle during practice on Thursday, it appeared that he would still be ready to go on Friday for the snowboard slopestyle elimination round at the 2012 Winter X Games. However, that turned out to not be the case on Friday. White pulled out of the competition in order to rest up for Sunday's Snowboard SuperPipe event, reports the Denver Post.

White had been looking to get back into position to win a medal in the slopestyle competition. He placed 13th overall in 2011 and last won gold in 2009 (he took 2010 off to concentrate on the SuperPipe). He had won gold four straight years in slopestyle from 2003-2006 as well.

Men's SuperPipe Elimination round and Medal round take place on Sunday, the last day of competition. White is looking to win an unprecedented fifth straight gold medal on the SuperPipe.
