Mike Locksley Fired As New Mexico Football Head Coach, According To Report

Mike Locksley's tenure as the New Mexico Lobos head coach is at an end, according to a Sunday CBSSports.com report by Dennis Dodd. It appears that Saturday's arrest of recruit Joshua Butts will play a large role in his dismissal. Butts was arrested for aggravated DWI in a car that was registered to Locksley. Butts was driving to the game with three other individuals who were intoxicated, as well.

Locksley took over the Lobos in 2009 and posted a 1-11 record. He follow with another 1-11 season in 2010. Twenty eleven didn't get any better. The Lobos lost a sloppy 14-10 game to Colorado State to open the season and then were humiliated by Arkansas and Texas Tech by a combined score of 111-16.

On Saturday, the Lobos lost in overtime, 48-45, to FCS team Sam Houston State. One way or another, Locksley's time with New Mexico was going to be up soon. It's sad that it had to happen this way.
