Will the Colorado Buffaloes join the Utah Utes in winning their inaugural game as a member of the Pac-12? We'll need to wait until late on Saturday night or early Sunday, but the Utes picked up their victory on Friday in a game against Montana State, 27-10.
Their victory was a tale of two halves. The team came out with three touchdowns and a field goal in the first half before tacking on only a field goal in the second half. Running back John White IV rushed the ball 19 times for 150 yards and a touchdown while Jordan Wynn accounted for two touchdown passes. Block U isn't sure how to feel about the victory:
I'm not quite sure what to make of the overall performance. I was impressed with how the team looked for much of the first half. However, in the second half, they either looked disinterested at times or completely overwhelmed - I couldn't quite decide.
Montana State is a decent FCS team, but maybe the Utes just didn't want to reveal their hand against lower competition. They play the USC Trojans next week and face Colorado on Nov. 25 to close out their season.
Arizona State also started its season with a game against an FCS opponent, UC Davis. It was a lopsided 48-14 victory for the Sun Devils. The UC Davis Aggies were shutout until the fourth quarter when they were down 41-0 at the time. Sun Devils quarterback Brock Osweiler threw two touchdown passes, but later left with leg cramps
