Denver Broncos Reportedly Interested In Matt Roth

While most of the fuss of NFL free agency has died down with the major moves already over, there are still some quality players available out there to be had. One player of note for the Denver Broncos is defensive end/ linebacker Matt Roth, formerly of the Cleveland Browns. According to the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the Broncos are one of three teams interested in the former Iowa Hawkeye. The others are the New Orleans Saints and the Arizona Cardinals.

Roth would certainly be a great pick up (20 career sacks), but the issue is whether he really wants to play in a 4-3 defense. He'd need to play exclusively as a defensive end in that system, which the Broncos are back under with John Fox and Dennis Allen calling the defensive shots. He's played as an outside linebacker for the last three years between the Miami Dolphins and the Browns.

If the Broncos convinced him to sign, Roth would likely start over Robert Ayers on the defensive line. However, there will likely be a rotation set up to keep all of the guys fresh. This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on, especially since the Osi Umenyiora story line has fizzled.
