Millwood Added To Roster, Stewart Optioned

The Colorado Rockies have made several roster changes before tonight's game against the Cincinnati Reds. Recent free agent signee Kevin Millwood will make his first start in a Rockies uniform, and he will be taking the roster spot of RHP Matt Lindstrom.

Lindstrom has been effective this year, but has been unavailable to pitch because of arm tightness. He will head to the 15 day disabled list.

The more significant roster move involves 3B Ian Stewart, who has suffered through a dreadful season. Currently batting .156 with a .464 OPS on the year, Stewart has not made any significant strides during his multiple callups. He has been optioned down to AAA Colorado Springs, and RHP Edgar Gonzalez will take his place.

Gonzalez, 28, give the Rockies another option in the bullpen, though one with limited MLB experience. He has not pitched since 2009 with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

With this demotion, Stewart's MLB future with the Colorado Rockies appears to be very much in doubt.
