Did Denver Broncos head coach John Fox just throw out the opening salvo in the battle for the team's starting quarterback competition? In a one-on-one interview with the Denver Post's Woody Paige, Fox revealed that:
"deep down, I have an idea" who will be No. 1 when the season starts. [...] "I prefer a gamer to a good practice player... I want someone who will execute under pressure in a game."
This sounds like Fox prefers Tim Tebow, but, as the article goes on, Fox does have a depth chart that currently lists Kyle Orton at the top and the second-year quarterback right below. Brady Quinn is third, but Fox is supposedly going to give him a chance to win the job.
Fox did emphasize that he has yet to see any of the quarterbacks practice (darn lockout). But how much of this is just repackaging old comments? For months we've had lingering comments from Fox and John Elway that Tim Tebow isn't guaranteed anything and that he needs to perform during training camp to get the job. I don't see anything different after this interview.
