The Denver Broncos drafted nine players in the 2011 NFL Draft and they signed their first one on Wednesday evening. Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that seventh-round selection tight end Virgil Green has signed his rookie contract.
The deal should be for four years and $2.16 million. His base salary for this season will be $375,000 and a $17,282 bonus comes with it. He is the first Broncos to sign under the new rookie money pool allocation, most of which will wind up going to No. 2 overall pick Von Miller.
Green was one of two tight ends the Broncos drafted. They also selected Julius Thomas, a fourth-round selection. Both will be counted on to help a position that saw the release of Daniel Graham and has just Richard Quinn and Dan Gronkowski there.
